Advertising Mediums to promote your small business
Small businesses
looking to increase their sales and customers should invest in advertising to
build awareness of their brand but they also need to choose a medium, that
suits their budget. There are a variety of different advertising
avenues that your small business can use such as social media, Linkedin,
YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, and Google AdWords. Then there are the more
traditional advertising mediums, including newspapers, radio and local TV.
1. Social media advertising is
popular for small businesses, because it is cheap and you can select the
audience you want.
Facebook:
70% of Americans use Facebook. There are different ad units to
choose from including video ads, customer offers, page like etc.
Instagram: 60%
of Instagram users are under the age of 30 and this platform will work well if you
have a visual brand that appeals to younger audiences. You can also include
call to action to drive traffic to your website.
LinkedIn: is
a bit more expensive compared to other social networks, but it’s a great option
for small businesses with a B2B sales model, since you can target professionals
in specific industries.
TikTok 32.5% of
U.S. users are aged 10-19 and if you were going to
advertise on Tiktok, your target audience is very young so your business would
have to be suited to this age demographic, such as advertising, music channels,
phones, artists, music, apps, video games etc
2. Pay per
click advertising is a type of online advertising where advertisers
pay a fee every time a user clicks on one of their ads, usually through a
search engine.
3. Mobile
Advertising, ads are visible on mobile devices and can include
search ads and display, videos and app ads. The demographic is Eighty-four
percent of adult customers under the age of 30.
4. Print advertising was the main advertising method
for small businesses. The cost is much higher than digital and social
advertising. It works for an older audience and if your business was in a small
town.
5. Broadcast advertising is very
expensive and is only affordable for large and profitable businesses. If you
have local TV and radio stations near you, the cost might be more affordable
and the audience could be relevant to your local business.
6. Outdoor advertising is advertising
that reaches people when they’re outside of their homes, such as billboard ads,
transit ads (i.e. train ads, busses, etc.) and is very expensive.
7. Direct mail advertising is all
forms of ads that are delivered to a person’s home through the mail. Direct
mail ads enable you to deliver your message one-on-one to local consumers.

Tips
Make
sure to target the right audience to maximize your budget and spend your money
efficiently.
Advertise
where your audience is and research the different ad platforms.
It’s
important that you track and evaluate your advertising campaign to
make informed decisions about future ads.
If
you don’t have the budget to advertise all year long, run your ad campaigns
during the most effective times during the year.
Remarketing
is relevant for most forms of digital advertising. It involves targeting your
ads at people who have visited your website before but haven’t converted to a
paying customer. You can create highly personalized ads to engage with these
users, based on what they previously viewed on your website.
